Case Study: Intelligent Medical Objects (IMO)

IMO's Clinical Interface Terminology (CIT) is a suite of vocabulary products that helps physicians and healthcare organizations capture clinical intent while attaching the right billing codes.
Challenge
Migrate IMO from a small niche vocabulary player to the dominant vocabulary player within healthcare IT
Assignment/Methodology
Intelligent Medical Objects (IMO) engaged KBT Partners to review its asset base and corporate strategy. After meeting with senior management and key customers, KBT embarked on a series of strategic initiatives. These included:
- establishing new OEM relationships with several vendors
- hiring personnel to launch a robust new OEM program
- reviewing pricing and product strategies
- helping management evaluate new investors into the company
Results
When KBT was engaged in late 2008, the only substantial partner relationship was with Epic Corporation. KBT has successfully moved the sales strategy to being primarily an OEM model. During the timeframe since KBT has been engaged, IMO has signed OEM contracts with Eclipsys, Allscripts, Greenway, PatientKeeper, and Cerner. Negotiations are underway with several other EMR vendors as well as several healthcare IT companies that will include IMO vocabulary as part of their infrastructure.
KBT acts as a key strategic advisor to the company on an ongoing basis, assuring that these relationships meet their maximum potential, as IMO rapidly becomes the standard vocabulary interface for physicians in the United States.
